London Police arrest Wal-Mart shoplifter with meth

LONDON KY—On Monday, March 6th at 6 p.m. London Police responded to a complaint received through Dispatch of a shoplifter at Wal-Mart. Through investigation, Rita Smallwood, 40, of Hopper Creek Road in London, was arrested.

When Ofc. Ashley Wampler arrived at the scene she spoke with Wal-Mart Loss Prevention who reported that while working, they observed Smallwood conceal several make-up items inside her purse. Once the items were concealed, she attempted to exit the store but was stopped.

Ofc. Wampler discovered that Smallwood had a warrant out for her arrest for theft of services. She then searched Smallwood’s purse where a pink bag with three glass pipes and a small plastic baggy containing a crystal substance were found. Also discovered inside of her bra were more small plastic baggies containing a crystal substance. Smallwood told Police that the substance within the baggies were methamphetamine.

Smallwood was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500, first-degree possession of a controlled substance of the first offense (methamphetamine), and buying/possessing drug paraphernalia. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
