London Police engage in pursuit and make a drug arrest

LONDON KY—On Friday, April 29th London Police engaged in pursuit of a Dodge Charger at 1:20 a.m. traveling at a high rate of speed. The pursuit ended in the arrest of Jonathan A. Barrett, 25, Keithland D. Barrett, 46, and Tracy L. McCowan, of London.

The vehicle was observed by Sgt. Eric Wilkerson who was patrolling on South Laurel Road, and didn’t have its headlights on. The vehicle then turned around and passed Sgt. Wilkerson in the opposite lane. He then attempted to stop the vehicle for a violation. The driver, Jonathan Barrett turned right onto Middleground Way and began gaining speed at 72mph in a 35mph zone.

Sgt. Wilkerson engaged in pursuit while the driver continued to gain speed, round curves on the wrong side of the roadway, and turned on three different stop signs at a high rate of speed. The chase continued until the roundabout on KY-363 where Officers Steven Sparks and James Fox had the roadway blocked.

Traveling in the vehicle with Jonathan Barrett was Keithland Barrett and Tracy McCowan. Officers located schedule four narcotics and legend drugs not in their original container within the center console.

Jonathan Barrett was arrested and charged with speeding 26mph or greater than the speed limit, failure to illuminate headlights, reckless driving, and disregarding a stop sign. Keithland Barrett was arrested and charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance (excluding alcohol), resisting arrest, illegal possession of a legend drug, and having a prescribed controlled substance not in its original container, of the first offense. Tracy McCowan was arrested and charged with having a prescribed controlled substance not in its original container, of the first offense, illegal possession of a legend drug, and third-degree trafficking a controlled substance, of the first offense. All were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
