London Police respond to minivan vs. motorcycle wreck

LONDON KY—On Wednesday, May 31st at 2:54 p.m. London Police responded to a minivan and motorcycle injury accident at the intersection of KY-192 and KY-229. Two were flown out to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the minivan was driving under the influence of drugs and was arrested at the scene.

Ofc. Ryan Jackson led the investigation with assistance from other members of the London Police Department, the London Fire Department, London-Laurel Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and PHI Air Medical. It was determined that a 1993 Chevrolet Astro Van driven by Patricia A. Hollingsworth, 47, of Corbin, was traveling west on KY-192. According to witnesses, Hollingsworth failed to stop for a red traffic light and drove into the path of a 1998 Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by Christopher M. Abbott, 44, of Keavy, which was traveling north on KY-229 at the intersection of KY-192.

Abbott and his passenger, Heather N. Burkhart, 34, of London, were treated at the scene and transported to the London-Corbin Airport by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County where they were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Through further investigation, it was determined that Hollingsworth was driving under the influence of drugs and was arrested by Ofc. Jackson for DUI of the first offense and two counts of first-degree assault due to the severity of the injuries the victims’ received in the accident. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
