London Police Officer injured, three arrested

LONDON KY—On Saturday, Nov. 24th at 5:12 p.m. London Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart for three male shoplifters. Upon officer arrival, one fled on foot, which led to an officer being injured, and all three were arrested.

When Officers arrived, Victor Blankenship, 33, of Ricetown, Ky., Thomas Hensley, 19, and Trenton L. Hensley, 20, of Booneville, Ky. were being detained by loss prevention. Blankenship fled from loss prevention, leading to an officer involved foot pursuit into a wooded area behind the London Shopping Center. Blankenship had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and a felony warrant.

Lt. Matthew Moore, Sgt. Travis Hurley, Ofc. Steven Sparks, Ofc. Eric Wilkerson and Ofc. Dillon Blair engaged in pursuit with assistance from Deputies Robert Reed, Joey Robinson, and Jake Miller from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department. Officers repeatedly gave commands for Blankenship to stop, while he continued to flee. While Blankenship resisted arrest, Ofc. Sparks sustained a hand injury.

Ofc. Sparks was treated at Saint Joseph London KentuckyOne Health and released.

Blankenship was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, second-degree criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, and shoplifting under $500.

Thomas and Trenton L. Hensley were arrested and charged with shoplifting under $500.

All were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
