London Police now accepting applications for 2024 Citizen’s Police Academy?

LONDON KY—The London Police Department(LPD) now accepts 2024 Citizen’s Police Academy applications. The free behind-the-scenes course will be held on Tuesdays from May 7th through July 9th starting at 6 p.m. and will last 2-3 hours. During the Academy, community members will be provided hands-on opportunities to learn about police procedures and investigation techniques.

“We want to give our citizens a better understanding of how we operate and the issues we often face. We hope this will continue to strengthen our relationships while enhancing our abilities as an agency to serve our community better,” said Chuck Johnson, Chief of the London Police Department.

This is the third year the LPD is hosting the CPA. Citizens will be instructed on a variety of topics, including the K-9 unit, traffic stops, patrol tactics, active shooter response, and detective investigations - to name a few. Students will also receive a tour of the Laurel County Detention Center.

“We are blessed in London to have citizens who care about and want to help keep this community safe and moving forward,” Chief Johnson said.

A graduation reception will be held on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, and following the Academy, students will have the opportunity to ride along with a police officer.

Interested candidates must be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and background checks will be conducted on applicants. Priority will be given to those who live or work within the City of London. Space is limited to 15 people.

The deadline for applications is Friday, March 29th, 2024. Accepted applicants will be announced by Friday, April 12th, 2024.
