London Police joins nation-wide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign through the holiday season

LONDON KY—The London Police Department is joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, Dec. 15, 2016 – Jan. 1, 2017.

The zero-tolerance crackdown on impaired driving will include high-visibility enforcement and nighttime checkpoints with a strong emphasis on seat belt and child safety seat violations.

“We diligently watch for drunk drivers year-round,” London Police Chief Derek House said. “But by joining this effort, we will make London’s roadways safer for everyone during the heavily-traveled holiday season.”

In Kentucky in 2015, there were more than 4,200 collisions involving alcohol, resulting in more than 2,000 injuries and 118 fatalities. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, high-visibility enforcement such as the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.

“We hope this campaign will serve as a reminder that those who choose to drink should never get behind the wheel,” Chief House said. “But if someone does choose to drive while drunk, we will arrest them. No warnings or excuses.”
