Laurel Cookie Factory Worker Injured

LONDON KY—On Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at 6:09 a.m. the London Police Department was requested to respond with the London Fire Department, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel Co., and the London Laurel Co. Rescue Squad to Laurel Cookie Factory due to a workplace injury.

Upon arrival emergency personnel were notified that 35-year-old Walter Garrett was discovered by a co-worker trapped between a forklift and a wall. At this time it is speculation that Garrett was operating the forklift, stepped off of it to shrink wrap a pallet, turned his back to the lift, and it began to roll backward—trapping his body between the lift and a wall.

The co-worker that discovered Garrett stated that the lift was in gear and the emergency brake was not set. Ambulance Inc. of Laurel Co. transported Garrett to the airport where he was air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with injuries.
